How to get into ChatGPT and Yandex Neuro answers

AI increasingly answers instead of search. I break down the signals it uses to choose sources and what to change on your site so it cites you.
Why GEO is not SEO
In classic search you compete for a position and a click. In a generative answer, the reader may get a solution before visiting any site. GEO is therefore not about tricking a model: it is about making your material the clearest, most defensible source for a specific question.
SEO remains the foundation: a page must be indexed, fast and relevant. GEO adds another layer: direct answers, clear structure, verifiable facts and a transparent explanation of where those facts come from.
Write so that a single paragraph can be quoted without losing meaning: answer first, explain next, then show the source or method.
How AI chooses a source
Models and search products do not publish an exact selection formula. In practice, pages are more likely to be cited when a self-contained fact is easy to find, understand in context and verify against a primary source.
- Explicit definitions and one clear answer per question.
- Freshness: publication and update dates, especially for rules, prices and tools.
- An author or company with demonstrated experience, cases or a documented method.
- Links to primary sources next to claims, not only as a general list at the bottom.
- Technical accessibility: the content is present in HTML and not hidden behind scripts or pop-ups.
Do not stuff a page with AI product names or ten variations of the same question. That does not make an answer more accurate. It is more useful to cover one intent completely: definition, steps, limitations and an example.
What to prepare on a page
Start with ten pages that already receive impressions and answer recognisable audience questions. For each page, define one primary question and answer it directly in the first two or three paragraphs.
- Collect real questions from search, sales calls, support chats and comments.
- Add a concise answer under the H1 or an H2; do not hide the conclusion after a long introduction.
- Split the material into meaningful H2 sections: reason, method, example and limitations.
- Support disputed claims with a document, study or your own documented method.
- Add an FAQ only for questions that do not simply repeat the main text.
FAQPage markup alone does not guarantee inclusion in AI answers. It helps a machine understand structure, but usefulness and trust in the source remain decisive.
How to measure results
Do not judge GEO by one chat answer: outputs vary by wording, region and time. Keep a list of target questions, record the domains and page types mentioned each month, and compare that with impressions, branded traffic and organic clicks.
A useful early signal is stronger visibility for pages with clear answers: more impressions for question queries, more branded visits and more links to your material. If nothing changes, review the quality of the answer and its sources before adding new keywords.
